Chairmans Report 08/09

Chairman's Report May 2008 - May 2009- Cllr Maggie Sims

This has been a busy year. Our previous clerk resigned in July and we had to set a process in motion for appointing a new clerk. We were fortunate that our new clerk, Annie Clipson, was in place for our September meeting. She barely had a chance to settle when we realised we needed to have Standing Orders, followed by Financial Regulations and then just before Christmas we were informed that a new Freedom of Information Act came into force in January. Our thanks to the clerk for putting all these documents together.

Looking back I began to wonder if we had had time to achieve anything else, but we have achieved quite a lot.

  • Reprieve of all phone boxes in our area
  • The street lights seemed to go on for months and was time consuming both in and out of the meetings - but we did get full agreement with offs for on, and both Glasbury and Boughrood did get extra necessary lights back on.
  • We have 2 new benches for the Glasybont and a new one to come outside the shop in Boughrood.
  • The school bus now comes into Boughrood instead of dropping off the children on the far side of the main road - and many parents have expressed their gratitude to the Community Council.
  • We have an agreement that the speed limit over the bridge should be 20mph but that hasn't happened yet.
  • The bungalows in Glasbury have new signage now.
  • We have supported the Boughrood residents regarding the Veolia buses being parked in the depot, but we are still waiting for the Planning Committee to make a site visit.
  • We have, at long last, the map of the Glasbury and District area.

Councillors have attended several outside meetings.

I would like to thank Cllr Jo Northam and Cllr Pat Yeomans for attending the One Voice Wales meetings.

I would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the year:- Cllr Claire Graham for her support as vice chair, especially when we were sorting out the financial arrangements with the bank , which was not as straight forward as it should have been.

Cllr Ann Boyle as the previous chair for being there when I needed advice.

Annie Clipson for her support and efficiency, especially in dealing with the legal documents and the everyday running of the council.

County Cllr Margaret Morris for supporting us with matters concerning Powys, and helping make things happen quickly.
